Think tortoise, not hare

SCENARIO:

That's it. You've made up your mind. You're ready to be done with being fat and feeling dissatisfied with your body. You're unstoppable, baby!

Day 1. Like a racehorse you shoot out of your stall and BRING IT with your exercise program.

Day 2. Holy Cow! Why are you so sore you ask yourself? But you're unstoppable, so you really push it on day 2.

Day 3. Oh, okay, you're feeling better. That wasn't so bad. You push play and you're on FIRE, boy! You're feeling great! Bring it!

Day 4: Um, where'd your motivation go? Why are you feeling so exhausted, so tired? But you BRING IT anyway, although, um, it wasn't quite so easy.

Day 5: Still determined, but secretly feeling a little defeated, you wonder how you're going to keep this up for 5 more weeks, for a lifetime.

Fast forward to day 21....

Day 21: You've got nothing left to give. You feel like a failure. You fall off the wagon and can't figure out where you went wrong. You really did give it all you had.

This, unfortunately, is a typical scenario. Charged with ambition and determination, you forget that it's the tortoise, not the hare, that wins the race.

Ladies and gentlemen, the tortoise, with its nice and easy pace, always gets to where it's going. I know you're eager to be fit, but if you shoot out like a wild animal, you will most likely burn out and not reach your final destination: a new you.

Whether you're doing Slim in 6, P90X, Turbo Jam, or any other exercise program, remember to PACE YOURSELF. No need to do anything extra. These programs are challenging enough without needing to add an extra half-hour on the treadmill or on the elliptical, for example.

Empower yourself by reading the literature that comes with your videos. Follow the recommendations.

If you EAT CLEAN and PRESS PLAY six times a week, you will be well on your way to getting the body you've always wanted.

Bring it wisely!

Hey Barbie! I love your blog and I love this post!! I plan to print out a few "Think tortoise, not hare" signs to hang around my apt for a subtle little reminder to SLOW DOWN! Thanks Barbie! You rock!

Barbie,
You are so right! I used to feel so guilty if I didn't keep up 100% of the way, but I now figure, any % of the hour is better than zero. Some days my body is more sore than others and I just say slow down. It's so important not to beat yourself up!
