Dream and Then Take Action

Every week for the past four weeks, I have been leading a free workshop based on Jack Canfield's book, The Success Principles, for folks in the BeachBody Community. We kicked off our first session last month by committing to taking full responsibility for our lives. Anything that happens in our lives, we agreed to accept, is a result of something that we have helped to create. (Trust me, this alone was a big pill to swallow, but probably one of the most life-changing steps I have ever taken!) We also agreed to give up blaming, because when we stop blaming others and circumstances for what happens to us, we stop seeing ourselves as victims. My discovery? That we truly are in the driver's seat. Once that was dealt with and out of the way, we then moved on to thinking about and then writing down our goals in the following 7 areas of our lives:

financial
career
relationships
health/fitness
personal
recreational/free time
community

What I've come to realize, too, is that while it's sure nice to dream, without action, without a plan, our dreams...well, they remain just that: dreams. If you want something, you have to first set a goal, then go for it.

Tonight, we worked on articulating our weaknesses or the things that stop us from taking action. For some of us, it's the fear of failure and self-doubt. For others, laziness, or the no-free-time-excuse is what stops us from taking the necessary steps to getting from where we are to where we want to be.

I felt us grow again tonight, as we looked inside ourselves to examine the ways in which we limit ourselves and came up with specific ways to address these obstacles. Without a clear set of goals and an action plan, I know I would be as Zig Ziglar says, "a wandering generality." I am finally, I can feel it, "a meaningful specific." Slowly, but surely and measurably, I am getting to where I want to be in ALL the areas of my life.

If you have a dream, kids, dream it. But, then be ready to take action. It's the only way that I am now willing to live.

What are you waiting for? I hope you will join me.

Bring it!
