The Last Piece of the Puzzle: Commitment

Dear Boys and Girls,

Over the past few days I have posted a series of documents to help those who are starting out on their fitness journey soon or with me on Monday, January 5th. I posted a meal plan, shopping list, workout sheets for ChaLean, as well some tips/recommendations on choosing bands and weights.

You now have all the tangible things you need to succeed.

Now comes the hard part: your drive and commitment.

One of the reasons I found myself slipping in the kitchen this past December was because I failed to plan ahead and think things through. Wait, this has nothing to do with drive and commitment. Well, let’s see, maybe it does.

If you’re planning, as many of us are, to start anew on Monday, January 5th, 2009 and you haven’t thought about when you’re going to find the time to work out and if you haven’t given any thought as to what and how you’re going to be eating, then you’re setting yourself up to fail. It sounds harsh, but it really is that simple.

If you press play six times a week and eat whatever you want, whenever you want, you will be simply wasting your efforts. You may see some results, but chances are they will be minimal. I’ve seen it too many times, boys and girls. If you want results, you have got to put in the effort, both in the kitchen and on the mat.

If you’re already pretty fit, but are looking to take your fitness to yet another level, you’ll need to make sure that you get the proper balance of veggies, carbs, proteins, etc. If you want different results, then you must put in the extra effort. Here, I am truly speaking to and about myself.

Yes! I can be lazy! I don’t feel like mapping out my food. I don’t feel like tracking my food intake with www.fitday.com. I don’t want to write down my weights and number of reps. These things can feel like such a drag!

Ugh. But here I go, I’m gonna say it: I’m committing to doing all these things starting Monday. I want sculpted legs, more defined arms, and tighter abs and I am willing to work for it!

My favorite gurus say we should WRITE IT DOWN, so here I go, for the second time this week:

I WILL WORKOUT SIX TIMES A WEEK.

I WILL ONLY HAVE ONE CHEAT MEAL A WEEK.

I WILL NOT HAVE CHEAT TREATS DURING THE WEEK. These little chocolates here and there that I sometimes allow myself during the week are standing between me and my body.

I WILL WORKOUT FIRST THING IN THE MORNING.

I WILL GET READY TO START MY DAY AS SOON AS MY WORKOUT IS OVER and I HAVE WALKED MY DOGS.

I’ve got my mind right, boys and girls.

Tomorrow I will take my DAY 1 pictures and measurements. I will also get my kitchen ready by doing all my grocery shopping.

I’m mentally ready to get to where I want to go.

I’m not sure if I ever discussed drive, but it’s okay, because commitment will get me there. I strongly encourage you to take ten to fifteen minutes to think about what you want and what you need to do to get there. Start the New Year out right. The time is now!

Bring it!
